Identification

The Identification Bureau is staffed by our crime scene specialists. Unlike popular television shows where evidence is processed in fifteen minutes, crime scene analysis and evidence collection is a time consuming process that requires highly developed observation and organizational skills. The Detectives in this Bureau respond to crime scenes to collect evidence ranging from fingerprints to firearms. They are also responsible for the safeguarding of property and evidence entrusted to our care. The Identification Bureau also handles all firearms applications.

Firearms ID Cards and Handgun Permits

The processing of all firearms related applications is handled by the Identification Bureau. Under New Jersey Law [2C:58-3c(4)] you must be at least 18 years old to purchase a rifle or shotgun and at least 21 years old to purchase a handgun.
