Traffic Safety

There are only a few short weeks before the school year begins in Sayreville. Drivers are asked to be very aware of the return of children walking to and from school. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of AAA, local cooperating local store owners will be able to display the 2011 School’s Open Drive Safely posters.

The Traffic Safety Bureau will be stepping up their pedestrian safety efforts in the next few weeks. As the old saying goes, we have many children in our community but none to spare.  Be aware and ALWAYS yield to pedestrians.

In early September our department will be increasing patrols to detect intoxicated drivers. Funded by a grant from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety the Over the Limit Under Arrest campaign will allow us to staff targeted patrols to detect and arrest intoxicated drivers.  Remember, if you have been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel.
